Troy Moritz The importance of training your dog
There are many reasons that having a well trained dog will benefit both the owner and the canine. Unfortunately dog bites are one of the most common reasons for hospital emergency room visits. While there are some incidents that are truly accidental, most times these situations can be avoided.
Training a dog is relatively simple to do no matter what the dogs’ age. However, one should know that training a dog takes patience and time. Teaching a dog the basic commands like sit, stay and come are the beginning and most basic training every dog owner should do.
Socialization is a key component to having a well trained dog. Not only should a dog be friendly and comfortable around adults, children and the elderly but it should be equally content being with other animals. What most people don’t realize is that by taking time to correctly socialize and train your canine companion the bond between pet and owner grows stronger.
Dogs by nature are pack animals and need a leader to establish the rules of the pack. Because of their pack nature a dog will look for guidance from the leader of the pack. It is when there is no hierarchy within the group that problems can arise. Some undesirable behaviors that can be corrected with proper training include, jumping, begging for food, barking and aggression. One advantage of having a well trained dog is that people will enjoy being in the company of your canine companion.
Owing a dog is a big responsibility that should never be taken lightly. Training your dog so that it is a pleasure to be around should be a goal for all canine owners. Not only does training make ownership a pleasant experience, but it also creates a happy well balanced dog. With the correct training a dog can provide years of loyal companionship to owners and their families.
